Introduction


     Founded in 1994.Center for Australia
Zealand and South Pacific Studies(CANSS) is a research institution run by Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) whose aim is at promoting studies on Australia, New Zealand and other South Pacific countries. With fellows from different research institutions, its functions as a central body coordinating the studies on Australia, New Zealand and other South Pacific countries both inside and outside the Academy. It plays an active role in not only furthering the unclear standings of Chinese people on this region, but also strengthening economic, political and cultural ex-changes and cooperation between China and those countries.

Functions

To organize and coordinate the studies of economic, political, social, cultural issues, as well as foreign relations of Australia, New Zealand another South Pacific countries, both inside and outside CASS through research projects, seminars, Conferences, and exchange programs.
To introduce Australia, New Zealand and other South Pacific countries to Chinese people through publishing books, journals and other kinds of materials either by the center itself, or through international Cooperation.
To carry out international exchanges through inviting scholars, organizing conferences and seminars, as well as joint research programs in order to promote the academic exchanges and cooperation between China and Australia, New Zealand and other South Pacific countries.
To collect and process information and data on Australia, New Zealand and other South Pacific countries, and to carry out consulting service and training.

Organization

The leading body of the 'center is the board of directors organized on the base of the memberships from different institutions. The Center invites advisors for the consultation of its activities.
Headed by a director, a deputy director and a secretary general, the Center also has an honorable director who is of noble character and high prestige in the supervision of its activities. Secretary general may nominate deputy secretary general for special needs.
The center employs research fellows from both inside and outside the Academy to carry out research and other activities.
The administration office of the center is in the Institute of Asia Pacific Institute (IAPS), CASS

Finance

The center raises the funds for all of its activities. It welcomes donations, supports from domestic and foreign foundations, institutions, companies, as well as individuals.
As a non-profit institution, all of its in-come, either from donations, supports and cooperation, or through its service, are used for its activities.
